Gypsy Rose Blanchard

Gypsy Rose Blanchard is an American woman who gained notoriety for her involvement in the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. Dee Dee suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy (now known as Factitious Disorder Imposed on Another), and is believed to have subjected Gypsy Rose to years of medical abuse, falsely claiming she suffered from various illnesses such as leukemia, muscular dystrophy, and developmental delays. She was forced to use a wheelchair and feeding tube unnecessarily, and underwent numerous surgeries and medical treatments she didn't need.

To escape the abuse, Gypsy Rose conspired with her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, to kill Dee Dee Blanchard. In 2015, Godejohn traveled to Missouri and fatally stabbed Dee Dee.

Following Dee Dee's death, Gypsy Rose and Godejohn were arrested. Gypsy Rose pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 2016 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Godejohn was convicted of first-degree murder in 2018 and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

The case has sparked significant discussion about the complexities of abuse, mental illness, and the justice system.
